Some of the most beautiful stories that we hear today are those kind of stories that help us understand the gospel. The gospel story is simply the story of us, people made in the imagine of God who rebelled against him, but he because of his great love pursued us by dying for us, Jesus dying in our place, taking on himself the wrath of God we deserved, and then exchanging our sin for his righteousness. The most amazing verse I think about when I think of the gospel is 2 Cor 5:21 For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.
So back to some of those stories that help us better understand that. Adoption. Not long ago I interviewed two families who adopted children and I was deeply moved by how they, like God did for us, rescued children and included them into their family. I have the privilege today to talk to Tatiana Fortney who has the most amazing story of being rescued. And as we listen to his story, I hope you will appreciate even more what your life could have been had God not intervened. Let me transition with this verse from 2 Cor. 6:18 and I will be a father to you, and you shall be sons and daughters to me, says the Lord Almighty.”
God brings beauty from pain. Tatiana was saved from a house fire at 9 months old, adopted from an orphanage at 6, and made it through 20 surgeries by the time she was 20 years old. She was taught to be a part of a family of 6 kids and a lot of animals. She grew up out in the country, running around barefoot in the woods. Growing up in a network of support and love helped her get through many difficulties that life threw her way. Tatiana graduated from the MA program at Concordia University, and she worked as a phlebotomist in south-east Wisconsin. God never ceases to amaze her with His love and compassion. Tatiana is truly honored to share her story.
